What happens after you reach out

The first conversation is free and confidential. Call, send the form above, or text — whatever is easiest right now. During business hours you will usually reach someone straight away; after hours, leave a message or send the form and you will hear back the same business day.

Have the basics ready if you can: your name, the county where the arrest or charge happened (Collin, Dallas, Denton, or one of the surrounding counties), the charge as written on any paperwork you were handed, and your next court date if one is set. None of this is required to call. If you do not have it yet, that is fine — Kent will ask for what he needs.

If a loved one is still in custody, tell us which jail and roughly when they were booked. The sooner a lawyer is involved, the sooner the questions about bond and release can start moving — here is how bail and bond work in Collin County. Starr Law, P.C. is a solo practice, so the person you speak with is the lawyer who will handle the case, not an intake screener who hands you off.

Contacting the firm does not by itself create an attorney-client relationship, and you should not send sensitive details about an open case through email or a web form. Save those for the phone call or an in-person meeting, where the conversation is privileged.

Questions before you call

Is the first consultation really free?
Yes. There is no charge to talk with Kent about your case. You only pay if you decide to hire the firm, and the fee and payment terms are set in writing before any payment is made.
What should I have ready when I call?
If you have it: your name, the county where the charge happened, the charge as written on any paperwork you were handed, and your next court date. None of it is required to call. If you do not have it yet, Kent will ask for what he needs.
How fast will I hear back?
During business hours you will usually reach someone right away. After hours, leave a message or send the form and you will hear back the same business day. The office answers seven days a week.
Will I work with Kent or someone else?
With Kent. Starr Law, P.C. is a solo practice, so the person you speak with is the lawyer who handles the case from the first call through trial, not an intake screener who hands you off.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Kent speaks Spanish and Portuguese in addition to English, and a consultation can be held in Spanish. Lea esto en español en nuestra página para clientes de habla hispana.
